Ken is attempting to log and record his field trip to Crete from the 16th t0 23rd June 2009 with 28 Geography students from the University of Reading. The innovation within this field class is that groups are interlinking their measurements and observations noted down in their A5 hardback notebooks with daily blogs on Dell mini 9 notebooks.
The Dell mini 9 notebooks were assesed several weeks earlier. The extra software loaded was Map Source to transfer the Garmin E-trex Summit GPS readings off line and Live Writer to input to the wordpress web sites that each group had initially setup. As it turned out everybody could upload to the net when ever they wanted. The latest google earth with flash plugin was also loaded prior to the trip allowing transfer directly from the GPS or from the map source program.
Dr Alan Howard set up the website and used it initially for the students to be kept aware of the requirements needed for the trip. When the field class started the students and staff all fed their blogs into alan’s website creating an interesting up to date record of this 2009 field trip.
Ken has been adding small video sequences to his daily blogs since getting back to the UK.
